BSA Deerhunter 8-32x44 Side Wheel Focus AO Mil-Dot scope

Thought I would try one of these scopes a BSA Deerhunter 8-32x44 , I really like the finish on the tube and the general look of it , I also want a 32 mag scope but didn't want to spend a fortune. Got this from Hong Kong only took 5 days to come, its more than likely a copy of a BSA due to the price ;-).

Quality is really good, the glass is nice and clear and the parallax works well, it zeroed very quickly. I have put it on my BSA Hornet, no recoil as its a PCP so wont have any issues with that.

I will be shooting it this weekend in competition and a bit of hunting so will report back on how it goes, so far impressed with the quality of finish and the clarity of the glass , if it holds its zero then i think it will be a good buy.

Update 11 may 2014 - Used the scope today in a competition , It held its zero and I shot very well, was surprised at how good the glass is , nice and clear and it focuses very well, I usually shoot on x10 and it was spot on even focuses down to 8m nice and clear. Also noticed the gun was a lot lighter.

WEIHRAUCH HW97K .22

Bought myself a HW97K in .22, I wanted a good quality .22 with a fixed barrel, I have owned HW77s and TX200s in the past and had heard good things about the 97, The weight is good about 9lbs, It has a good balance. I have put my 10x44 Viper scope on her so that's increased the weight a bit. Was quick to zero and seems to like falcon accuracy pellets that I find really good with a flatter flight because they are very light for a .22. I like the look of the gun the under lever catch is very good quality. I was also able to keep the scope sun shade on as the loading port is wide and open .Because its a .22 the recoil is less harsh than a .177, so far i am thinking this will become my main springer.

WEIHRAUCH HW57 .22 REVIEW

 My son has owned one of these for a few years , they are quite unique with the self opening loading port, the gun is quite light and very easy to cock. you get the accuracy of the fixed barrel but the lightness of a break barrel. The trigger is the Rekord two-stage, these are probably the best triggers you can get. One of the best features is the pop up breach this makes the gun very safe compared to most under levers as there is no chance of losing a finger, so ideal for a young shooter who wants an under lever.

WEIHRAUCH HW90k THEOBEN GAS RAM .177

My son owns one of these and I have used it a couple of times, In comparison to any other spring powered Weihrauch rifle I have owned or used this is completely different in many ways. The biggest difference is the Gas ram obviously, its very smooth and quiet and consistent, this gun groups better than my HW98, the trigger is not a Reckord trigger but is just as good, the safety is in a different position its on the block in front of the trigger guard.

This is one big gun it weighs in at 8.75lbs and is 1080mm long, it is not a gun for those of a smaller stature. It has almost no recoil so is easy to shoot in that respect. The long barrel means you have to have a good follow through technique, It has a safety reset catch which means you can put the safety back on once you have taken it off - handy for hunting  .

Overall a well built big rifle, very accurate , whisper quiet.

Nikko Nighteater 30mm 6-24x56 MilDot SWAT Scope

Giving this scope a try, wanted to have a go at a bit of FT shooting with the .22 Hornet.
On looking at Chairgun on x24 for a .22 I needed extended mildots so that 55 yards had a mildot, on a normal mildot scope with 4 mildots this only goes to 42 yards. The extended mildot (6 mildots ) gives me the option to shoot at 55 yards on x24.
The scope is huge!!16.5 inch's with the sunshade 21inchs.
The optics are very good, nice and clear it has a 30mm tube , I have been setting the wheel up for range finding and can range find accurately within about 1/2 - 1 yard accuracy. the scope cost me £175.00 which I think is good value for a scope of this quality , it comes with mounts , large  side wheel , 3.5 inch sunshade & flip up scope caps.
The turrets are pull up to adjust and then push down to lock, there is a small Allen key bolt in the turret so you can set your turrets to zero once set up.
On x24 you can parallax down to 10 yards, if you lower the mag you can clearly see at less than 8 yrds mag adjustment range is 6 - 24.
So far I think this scope is really good and excelent value for money , the optics are in the same quality range as my MTC scope.

 

BSA HORNET .22 PCP REVIEW

Well I have had this gun a few months now so I thought I would review it.

I suppose the 2 most important factors any one needs to know about a gun are accuracy and the trigger. The gun I have is .22 and the accuracy is superb , the gun out shoots me, if I miss it is not the gun I use Falcon accuracy plus pellets these are light pellets and give a flatter tragetory than heavier pellets like AA fields. The trigger is nice and light and has a definable 2 stage pull you can let the shot of crisply or slowly. The gun has an unusual loading / cocking arrangement to open the breach you press a small lever on the right side of the breech and this releases a bolt that springs backwards and opens the pellet tray , you insert the pellet and push the bolt forward until it locks, you then pull a plunger back towards you at the front of the stock this cocks the gun and its ready to fire, there is an on off safety at the rear of the stock as well , this is not an auto safety so you engage it as required .

 

The air chamber takes a 232bar fill and i am getting 80+ shots from a fill at full power, the accuracy is spot on right from the first shot, this will be due to the regulator which does an excellent job. The silencer appears to be original and works really well the gun is whisper quiet.

The black area is smaller than a 1p coin there are 5 shots in this group. The gun is fairly heavy but this will in part be due to the scope i use which in its self is reasonably heavy. Overall I really rate this gun and would recommend one to any bobdy.

TS45 SIDELEVER - CARBINED AND SILENCER ADDED

This was how the TS45 looked when I bought her , lovely smooth trigger and shooting cycle, esthetically I always thought the barrel looked to long.

I decided to change the stock to balance the look , a TX200 stock seemed to look ok .

Looks a lot better but still the barrel is out of proportion , so decided to take 7 inch's of the barrel , the barrel was 19 inch and had 1 3/4 rifling twists so by taking 7inchs off the pellet still gets a full spin before leaving the barrel,

Looks and feels great now, this is my open sight gun at the moment, for an old Chinese gun she shoots really well.

HW98 AND B26-2 stock swap

Finally got these 2 sorted , have put the B26-2 .22 in the HW98 stock and the HW98 .177  in the B26-2 stock. Just prefer them this way round. I do my competition shooting with the HW98 .177 and find the Thumbhole stock easier to hold especially for standing shots. The B26 fits perfectly in the 98 stock has a slightly shorter barrel and is a perfect little hunting gun.

HW98 - SPRING REMOVAL, CUTTING , MOLY GREASING.

Needed to reduce the power on the 98 , she had slowly been going up , on a recent chronoing I had a reading of 812 fps which is just over 12lbs , so needed to reduce the power, general advise was remove 1 spring coil or compress 1 coil by heating and collapsing , i decided to remove 1 coil below are the step by step actions to get at the spring

Remove the scope

Remove mechanism from stock by removing the 4 screws.

remove the trigger guard

remove action from stock

next remove the trigger mechanism , 2 pins need to be drifted out with a punch and the head of a screw driver to tap them out,

pull the pins out once they are through far enough

then cup the area where the safety is , as when you slide the trigger mechanism it will pop out, your hand will catch it, remove the pin and the spring.

when the trigger is removed you will see 4 small square plates these need to be removed, using a small allen key or bent nail pop then out trough the small holes behind the plate , this can be fiddly but once you get 1 out you can get to the opposite one easier with a straight pin.

the trigger block holder needs to be removed now , for this you will need a rubber ( eraser ) the block twists out anti - clockwise, place the rubber down and stand the gun on it , press down and twist and the block should turn releasing the lug, at this point the spring will push the gun up- there should not be much pre-load on a standard spring but if your gun has been apart and some one might have put an ox-sping in be very careful.

with this block removed you can get at the spring, if you needed to get at the piston you would need to remove the screws that hold the break barrel to the main tube.

Cut the spring as required and finish the end with a flat surface

then grease the spring with moly grease, not loads but a reasonable amount

then put the gun back together , which is the reverse of stripping.

XS B26-2 .22

Purchased this gun because it has a shrouded barrel and is a copy of the HW 95 , the B26-2 is the thumbhole version of the B26, these a a very good copy even having a copy of the record trigger. the standard B26 looks like this :

The compression chamber has been enlarged from 25mm for the B20 to 26mm for the B26-2, for better power and consistency. The XS-B26-2 is the result of many refinements, upgrades and improvements in materials and quality control, and provides a fine and accurate shooting experience for enthusiasts seeking accuracy rather than all out magnum power. The B26-2 is fitted with a thumbhole stock with raised cheek rest for a more ergonomically comfortable fit.
          
The model I have has had the stock stippled and a shroud on the barrel, shoots really well and has a good solid feel to it. I would recomend this gun to any one who wants a good springer at a reasonable price.
